There are plenty of survival games that throw endless enemies at you, but few seem quite as interested in making the battlefield look like it has escaped from a traditional picture scroll. HYAKKI YAKO Survivors has now arrived on Xbox Series X|S and PC, bringing its stylised take on roguelike survival to Microsoft’s consoles.
Priced at £6.69, the game also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, making it possible to jump between Xbox and PC without leaving your progress behind.

Survive The Hyakki Yako
Follow the wind, find the cursed torii gates and destroy every one of them before the Hyakki Yako overwhelms you. Why wouldn’t you?
Naturally, getting anywhere near those gates isn’t going to be easy. Enemies arrive in force, requiring you to fight alongside your fellow warriors while building a formation capable of dealing with the growing threat.
Defeating enemies provides orbs, which can then be used to strengthen both your own character and your companions. That means every battle offers an opportunity to improve before the next wave arrives, and the roguelike elements should give those encounters some added unpredictability, while the picture-scroll-inspired presentation provides HYAKKI YAKO Survivors with a distinctive visual identity.
A Small-Scale Survival Challenge
HYAKKI YAKO Survivors originally launched on Steam in 2025, although the PC version has only attracted a small number of reviews so far, with those reviews sitting in the Mixed category.
Now the game gets its chance to find an audience on Xbox. With a £6.69 Xbox Store asking price and a deliberately casual approach to roguelike survival, it could be worth a look for anyone after something a little different from the usual hordes of enemies.
Just remember the objective: find the torii gates, destroy them all and survive the Hyakki Yako.
