Developer YukimiSoft has released its PC-98-inspired yuri visual novel, if you stay, for PC via Steam. The game is available now as a free download.
Set during the winter of 1999, if you stay follows Fumiko, a former student council president who is kicked out of her home after her closest friend outs her. Planning to leave her hometown for Tokyo to pursue a career as an idol, Fumiko receives a late-night call from her girlfriend, Mika, asking to see her one last time.
Their final meeting forms the basis of the story, with players guiding their conversations through dialogue choices that determine whether the two stay together or go their separate ways. The visual novel features roughly 10,000 words per playthrough and two endings, each with its own CG artwork.
if you stay features handcrafted 16-bit pixel art inspired by Japanese PC-98 visual novels. Its soundtrack, composed by William Gomez, recreates the sound of the YM2608 audio chip used in NEC’s PC-98 computers.
The game was previously announced for a free October release in July, with its launch arriving as scheduled.
